- Britain’s Dillian Whyte challenged Francis Ngannou to a boxing match, and also fired several insults.
- Previously the French-Cameroonian MMA fighter expressed a desire to get into the ring with one of the top boxing heavyweights.
- Recently, the stories regarding a possible fight between Ngannou and Jon Jones appeared.
Whyte Trashes Ngannou
The British boxer didn’t wait for too long following Ngannou’s interview in which he stated that he wants to clash with some of the top boxing heavyweights. After swiftly defeating Jairzinho Rozenstruik at the UFC 249, in just 20 seconds, the French-Cameroonian fighter once again reached the center of attention.
His punches are arguably the most powerful in the UFC, and according to some in all combat sports. We saw him demolishing rivals in a way no one has done it before. Because of all those stories, Ngannou thought that it would be a good idea to step inside the boxing ring.
“Yes, I would have a boxing match,” Ngannou said. “Whoever is possible and whenever is possible. The top heavyweights.
Whyte sent back a strong response, which included several insults and harsh words.
“Don’t talk about it, let’s just do it,” he stated. “Ngannou is dumber than he sounds if he thinks he’s going to do anything in boxing,”
Whyte is currently the WBC interim titleholder, and is preparing for the match against Alexander Povetkin. That contest is scheduled for July 4th in Manchester after being rescheduled due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Whyte is waiting for his big moment for a long time, as he didn’t get a chance to fight with some of the stars in the heavyweight division. He was supposed to meet Deontay Wilder, but that didn’t happen because of Bronze Bomber’s clashes with Tyson Fury.
The 33-year old Brit has 27 wins in his career and just one loss, against Anthony Joshua in 2015. He is anxious to get a chance for a rematch or at least to fight with some other rival for the title.
By the way, he had one MMA match against Mark Stroud in 2008, which he finished in 12 seconds, knocking out the opponent.
Ngannou and his Future
The most attractive UFC fighter has numerous options on his table right now. His win against Rozenstruik earned him another chance to fight for the title. He already had one bout against Stipe Miocic at the UFC 220, but he lost it via unanimous decision.
Ever since, the Predator seeks a second chance, and it seems that the UFC has no other option but to give him the same.
Still, there were some talks that Stipe might enter the ring with Daniel Cormier for one more time, which would mean that Ngannou needs to wait. Following this news, speculations about him making a super-fight with Jon Jones flooded the media, but there were no official confirmations regarding this possibility.
As another alternative, a boxing match appeared. If Ngannou has to wait for Miocic, and the lucrative contract for that event, he might as well cash in his current popularity and earn a substantial amount of money on the other side.
