Kamaru Usman Willing to Fight Conor McGregor for the Welterweight Title

  • Ali Abdelaziz, who is Kamaru Usman’s agent, called out Conor McGregor on Twitter, offering him a title-match against his client.
  • Shortly after that, Usman himself mentioned Conor.
  • Both guys are free at the moment and don’t have any plans for the future.

Abdelaziz Starts Everything, Usman Joins

We wrote yesterday about the possibility of seeing Francis Ngannou in the boxing ring against Dillian Whyte. Today’s news is also considering the UFC, but they are far more interesting.

The development from this Monday afternoon definitely shook the world of sports. The bout between Kamaru Usman and Conor McGregor could become the biggest ever in the UFC history, and arguably the most profitable combat event ever.

Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz revealed that Jorge Masvidal, the No.1 challenger in the welterweight category, isn’t interested in sharing the octagon with the champion but plans to have the second fight against Nate Diaz whom he defeated recently in the clash for the unofficial BMF belt.

So, the Egyptian manager offered Masvidal’s place to McGregor, saying that he wants to organize a title-match between the Notorious and Usman. Along with this, Abdelaziz used a chance to do some trash-talking.

“It looks like #1 contender wants to fight Nate Diaz now . Good for him @TheNotoriousMMA hey you want a title shot? Come to daddy @USMAN84kg will give you one, and he promises first 2 rounds without takedowns only slaps Face with tears of joy,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Shortly after that, Usman called out McGregor too. The reigning UFC welterweight champion posted a picture of him and McGregor inside the octagon, adding a provocative comment besides.

“I really don’t understand why you all want this man DEAD!!!” the champions wrote. “I’d shag him in there if I wanted, and he’d ‘DO NOTHIN’ .”

There weren’t any such disputes between the two, let alone some serious talks regarding the fight. But this, looks like an official call to Notorious who needs to make up his mind now. So far, there haven’t been any answers from his side.

Both Usman and Conor Without Fights in the Future

With Masvidal moving away from the possibility of booking a match against Usman, the champion is free to make his own plans. He did have some offers during the Coronavirus crisis, but turned down all of them.

Colby Covington was pushing for the rematch with the champ, and he even wanted that to be a replacement for the UFC 249 main event between Khabib and Ferguson. Still, Usman didn’t want to hear about that.

On the other side, following his comeback to the octagon at the UFC 246, Conor didn’t have another bout. He was trying to set up a rematch against Khabib, who was always curt in denying any such ideas. After Justin Gaethje defeated Ferguson, the Notorious called out the Highlight, but he too didn’t want to discuss anything, and is concentrated on meeting Nurmagomedov in the fight for the undisputed lightweight title.

So pretty much, they both have the situation clear and are in a position to make a super-fight, which would be profitable for everyone involved in the organization.
