Vancouver Whitecaps Suffer a Painful Loss, Quakes Win 4-3

  • Vancouver lost to San Jose in the lone MLS match this Wednesday night, 3-4.
  • Marc dos Santos’ boys had a lead at the halftime but didn’t have enough power to keep it during the second 45 minutes.
  • Shea Salinas delivered the game-winner in the eighth minute of the injury time.

Whitecaps Lose, Salinas Quakes’ Hero

In a spectacular match that saw seven goals, the Vancouver Whitecaps lost to Dan Jose Earthquakes, even though they had a lead at the halftime. The final result was 3-4 for San Jose.

The game was more than exciting with Shea Salinas netting in the 90+8 minutes, sparking a massive joy on the Quakes’ bench, as they not only won three points but also made a terrific comeback, displaying exquisite mental power.

He would take the ball at the midfield, storm down towards the box, enter the same from the left side, manage to pass the ball besides three of the defenders, luckily get it back before sending it past goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.

“It was crazy, what a team effort, I’m thankful to God,” Salinas said after the match. “It’s something we’ll remember for a long time. I’m proud of the way we play. We showed a ton of fight [and] we play an honest game.”

On the other side, it was a massive hit for the Whitecaps who didn’t know what hit them. They had a 2-1 lead after the first half, and then extending it to 3-1, during the middle of the second half through Christian Dajome

San Jose, meanwhile, managed to net an equalizer through Oswaldo Alanis in the 81st minute. Vancouver’s players hoped that they could resist until the end, at least get away with one point, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

“Very valuable and painful at the same time,” said Vancouver coach Marc Dos Santos. “There’s a lot of positives we’re going take from this game. We’re going to analyze the mistakes and see what we could have done better on the goals.”

Wondolowski Scores Once Again

Wondo once again managed to put his name on the scoresheet, and that happened just nine minutes after he entered the pitch. The legendary forward replaces Judson in the 63rd minute and hit the back of the net in the 72nd.

It provoked an avalanche on the Quakes’ side, and as time went by, they became more and more aggressive, deciding to go all-in, without caring too much for the consequences. And that eventually paid off.

On the other side, there was no motivation and desire among the Whitecaps as in the opening sequence, and they quickly became vulnerable. We need to say that after Ali Adnan scored a goal for them in the seventh minute, the second one was an own goal of San Jose’s Judson. It wasn’t a product of some good performance of dos Santos boys.

Andre Rios decreased the lead to 2-1 in the second minute of the first half stoppage time.

Up next, we have Vancouver meeting with the Seattle sounders on Sunday, 10:30 pm ET, while Quakes play against Chicago Fire at 8 pm ET one day later.
