Tom Brady won’t be back in New England at the start of the next season! This is the latest news from the NFL, and probably the most important one in the last several years.
Brady wrote a status on his Instagram account thanking all the people who were around him during his tenure in Foxborough, and adding that his “football journey” will take place elsewhere.
“Although my football journey will take place elsewhere, I appreciate everything that we have achieved and am grateful for our incredible TEAM accomplishments,” he wrote, among many things.
Speculations about Brady’s future were filling the media headlines since the Pats lost in the Wild Card round against the Tennessee Titans. At first, there was a question will he come back and play one more season at all, and talks about his departure from New England weren’t in the first plan at all.
However, as time went by and after his statement in which he revealed that retirement is not an option, Brady’s future with the Patriots was the biggest enigma in the NFL.
Some sources were already indicating that the team and the player are not on the same side and that striking a deal, in this case, won’t be an easy thing. There were numerous differences between the two parties, and it was more and more obvious that we might see one of the biggest breakups in the history of the league.
Many experts and pundits were claiming that Bill Belichick wanted Brady out of the team, as he believed that the legendary QB is way past his prime. This wasn’t the first time that Bellichick aimed to remove the six-time champ, as the two already had some disputes in the past, but none of them emerged to the surface due to excellent results the team posted.
These two guys made arguably the best coach-player duo in the history of the game, winning six Super Bowl titles, and marking one era in this sport.
Under Belichick, Tom Brady became a three-time MVP of the league, a four-time Super Bowl MVP, a nine-time AFC champion, a 17-time AFC East champion, and the oldest player to start all 16 games in one season.
What happens with Brady now, is a massive question. There are a few potential landing points for him. Los Angeles Chargers are at the top of the list, as they need a QB following Philip Rivers’ departure.
The Chargers were in the combination right from the start, along with the Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay.
The Raiders are probably out of the picture, as they already added Marcus Mariota. The only possibility is to ship out Derek Carr, but that is the least expected scenario. Chicago is desperate to get an elite QB, as they have a superb team whose only problem was Mitch Trubisky. The young QB can’t lead the team, and one of the best generations in clubs’ franchise is wasting its time with him in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is interested in landing Brady, but they won’t be able to attack the Super Bowl, which deteriorates their chances of having the 42-year old superstar on the roster
