Daniel Jones Comes Back After a Rocky Start, Giants Beat Bears, 32-13

The New York Giants have defeated the Chicago Bears in Week two of the NFL preseason football. Pat Shurmur’s guys were better and posted a 32-13 victory over the Bears’ backups.

Truth to be told, Matt Nagy isn’t a big fan of the preseason football, and the Coach of the Year for the 2018 season declared that the majority of the starters and the first team players wouldn’t participate in the contest.

But that didn’t matter very much to the Giants’ fans who were eager to see Daniel Jones and his possibilities. And the way it started for the rookie, many of the spectators were thinking of going home immediately.

Jones had two fumbles on his first three drives, and all of them ended without results. Many were getting impatient, but in the end, they had a lot to see from the former Duke quarterback. Jones managed to reach 161 yards, 11 of 14, and add one touchdown pass.

The youngster admitted that he had oscillations in his performance, but added that he knows how to fix them and what to do in order to eliminate the same.

“Yeah, definitely some ups and downs. You got to take care of the ball, I think is the first thing, you know, with those two fumbles. That would be something to focus on for sure,” said Jones.

Apart from those two fumbles, he played the game very well last night, and there weren’t many things which could be held against him.

Meanwhile, his mentor and the starting QB of the Giants, the two-time NFL champion Eli Manning had a good game. The veteran had thrown all of his four passes for 42 yards and a TD pass.

On the other side, Nagy and the Bears wanted to see the possibilities of their players who are fighting for the spot in the team. That is why he didn’t want to include the best players in the opening two matches of the preseason. Plus, the Bears are aiming a Super Bowl this season, so why risk the injuries.

“As a staff, we’re trying to evaluate where our backups are,” Nagy said. “We had to make sure we handled things the right way. I feel good about our starters already. I’m not going to worry about that. This gives us a chance to check out our depth.”

Chicago’s quarterbacks didn’t have a nice time in New York. Both Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray couldn’t make a touchdown pass, and the only time the guests carried the ball into the end zone was when Kerrith Whyte Jr. rushed for one yard in the third period.

Other six points were Eddy Pineiro’s product. He made two field goals, one from 41 yards and the second from 27. That was pretty much all from the guests in this match.

Their next match is in Indianapolis against the Colts on August 24. On the other hand, the Giants are heading for Cincinnati to play against the Bengals next Thursday.
