Chiefs Stunned Against the Colts on Sunday Night Football, 19-13

Sunday Night Football has brought a fantastic game in Kansas City, where Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chiefs with 19-13. It is the first loss of the season for Patrick Mahomes and his crew, and the one we could say without hesitation, which nobody expected.

This is the lowest-scoring game for Kansas City since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback of the franchise.

Maybe the Chiefs couldn’t foresee this failure, but according to the words of Colts’ head coach Frank Reich, his boys were more than confident before this contest. They felt that there is a realistic chance to make an upset and to snatch a win at the Arrowhead Stadium.

“The one emotion we were not feeling is shock. I can’t even explain it,” Colts coach Frank Reich said at the press conference. “The way guys were walking down the hallway, it was `We’re not going to be denied. We have to get on track. We’ve got to do it.’ I just knew it was real. I felt it all week.”

The excellent defense was the key to Indianapolis’ win in this one. The defensive team sacked Mahomes four times, for 33 negative yards, and not only that he was hit hard on a couple of occasions. At one moment, he picked up an injury, but not because of the rivals. His left tackle Cam Erving stepped on his foot, causing the reigning NFL MVP to go to the sidelines limping.

“Just reaggravated it a little bit there in the first half and then got stepped on in the second half,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, it’s going to be a little sore tomorrow.”

He threw 321 yards for a touchdown, 22 for 39. The Chiefs played without their top wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and that was immediately felt on the field. Plus, the running game of the home team was below every reasonable standard, with just 36 yards gained in that area.

On the other side, the guests had fantastic Marlon Mack, who had 132 yards on the ground on 29 carries. Mack was fabulous, and although he didn’t score a touchdown, the way he moved the ball and crushed Chiefs’ defense was quite impressive.

“The offensive line created the holes for me running the ball,” said Mack.

The sole touchdown was Brissett’s work, after a two-yard carry into the end zone. In general, the Colts’ quarterback had an awful game, and apart from that TD, everything else was pretty bad for him. He threw one interception and was 18 of 29 for 151 yards and 32.4 QB rating.

The guy who brought points for the guests was the 46-year old kicker Adam Vinatieri. The four-time Super Bowl champion was perfect from the field, hitting all four of his attempts.

Up next, the Colts are facing the divisional rivals, the Houston Texans who are also 3-2, and are sharing the top spot in the AFC South standings.

The Chiefs sitting at 4-1 right now, have the same opponent as the Colts. The only difference is that they are going to play against them on October 13, at home, while Frank Reich’s boys host the Texans seven days later.
