Tottenham Hotspur ruled out any speculations about selling their captain Harry Kane to Manchester United. The English media were reporting this Sunday that United pushed hard for getting the leader of the national team and that they \allegedly offered the record-breaking $250 million. This sum would be higher than Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar.
The deal would see Kane finishing the end of the season with the Spurs, before transferring to Old Trafford. However, the response from London was more than clear, and it suggested that Kane can’t go to United or any other club in the Premier League.
Some of the media claimed that Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy might give a green light for this transfer, due to the alleged financial difficulties the club experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Spurs recently worth a billion-dollar worth stadium and had numerous expenses, with the current situation slashing all of their incomes.
With this action, Tottenham clearly showed that they wouldn’t strengthen one of their domestic rivals. However, as another reason for denying the transfer, many see Spurs’ lack of offensive players and poor offer on the market this summer. The club is afraid to lose the centerpiece of the squad, which would be decapitated with Kane’s departure. Especially after allowing Christian Eriksen to move to Inter this winter.
Yet, although being the absolute icon of the fans and the leader of the squad, Kane showed frustration recently commenting on the fact that Tottenham didn’t win any trophies in recent years, although having an excellent roster. He even said that he might leave the club at some point.
“It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. So it’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever – but it’s not a no either.”
Apart from Man United, Real Madrid was also expressing interest for Kane, as Los Blancos need a typical striker, and the Englishman would be a perfect fit for their style of play. Their pressure on Tottenham was particularly high during 2018 and 2019, but it seems that the Spaniards would go for it once again this summer. Luka Jovic turned out to be a bust, and Kane could be their savior. By the way, the Spurs, along with Chelsea, were one of the teams who were inquiring about Jovic during this winter, so that might be used in further negotiations.
About Untied, they are desperate to land one superstar upfront. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was after Erling Haaland, but the youngster chose Borussia Dortmund. United was after Jadon Sancho, but in that case, too, Dortmund won and kept the flamboyant forward in Germany.
Kane was at the top of the list, but unfortunately for their fans, he won’t be pairing up with his teammate from the national team, Marcus Rashford. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic stopped all the sports action around the world, the activity on the transfer market is alive and beginning to heat up. Many teams want to use others’ financial problems and make some transfer, which wouldn’t be possible in normal circumstances.
