- Some believe this could be a big mistake, and 2.2 that players’ lives could be endangered.
- Toronto Raptors won’t be among the organizations who are opening their training centers
The situation in the NBA might be improving. According to the sources from the best basketball league in the world, some of the teams will open its training facilities on May 1.
Wojnarowski Brings the Good News
Adrian Wojnarowski reported this news citing his sources from within the league.
“Beginning on May 1, the NBA is allowing teams to open their practice facilities to players in cities and states where local governments have eased stay-at-home orders, sources tell ESPN,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
The league will allow organizations based in the states who are easing up with COVID-19 measures to unlock certain parts of their training centers. It practically means that the players might start practicing once again.
Yet, there would be some sort of restrictions even after these loosenings. There won’t be any group training and in-person workouts, and for some teams, there won’t be any changes at all. Only a few states began with pulling out of the lockdown, and the teams who are based there are able to follow these guidelines.
For now, Georgia and Oklahoma are among the states who are trying to get back to everyday routine and functioning. The majority of athletes were pretty frustrated with the fact that they weren’t able to touch the ball for a long time; some since March 11, once the NBA shut down all of its activities. This action could be a breath of fresh air for all of them.
Doubts About NBA’s Decision Appear
Still, there are some team executives who believe that this might be dangerous and that players and all other employees would be in a terrible position. They are following the opinions of the doctors who are against abandoning the lockdown measures.
Even though this is major progress when looking at the current situation, the wall of uncertainty still surrounds the league and its future. Nobody can foretell what happens next and are there any possibilities for the campaign to continue.
Adam Silver stated that he and his team would need more time and data in order to assess what is best for the entire system. There are plans for the resume of the campaign, and all of them are for different circumstances.
Regarding Toronto Raptors and their situation, they won’t be back training, because of the “Closure of Establishments” emergency order. It is an act that shuts down all the facilities that provide indoor recreation programs. Ontario prohibited all the gatherings with more than five people until May 6, and further steps would be known after that date.
So far, there are no official indications that the authorities there might loosen up the measures, which would create the possibility of seeing the champs back in the gym. Nick Nurse and the boys will either wait or go to some state which allows
