Joe Flacco Comes to New York, Carlos Hyde Joins Seattle Seahawks

  • Super Bowl XLVII MVP Joe Flacco moves to New York Jets, agrees to a one-year deal.
  • He will be a backup and a mentor to Sam Darnold.
  • Seahawks acquire Carlos Hyde, on a one year deal.

Flacco’s Move to the Jets Creates Big Hype

The NFL community went wild after hearing the news that the former NFL champion and the Super Bowl XLVII MVP decided to accept Jets’ one-year offer.

He will earn $1.5 million with the possibility of reaching $3 million with all the bonuses and incentives.

For the 35-year old this will be a completely different role than before, because the Jets expect him to be a backup to Sam Darnold, and also to mentor the 22-year old talent.

The franchise from New York had a lot of problems in the past once without Darnold on the field. They currently have a record of 0-6 without him. So pretty much the backup for the QB position was an absolute must in their situation.

Flacco is on the decline and has injury problems, but is still able to play a few games during the season at a solid level, which is exactly what the Jets need in order to make a step forward. They are expected to attack the playoffs, after showing a pretty good potential last year.

Flacco played 11 seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and a championship. Although he never was an attractive QB and had to wrestle with constant critics, his place in the Ravens’ history is cemented.

During the 2012 playoffs, once Baltimore took the title, he had 11 TD passes without a single interception, with all four games in the postseason with 100+ passer rating. In those four games, he threw for 1,140 yards, guiding his team through some pretty rough moments.

After Lamar Jackson established himself as the new force in the NFL, the Ravens traded Flacco to Denver Broncos, where he played eight games before picking up a neck injury and finishing the season. After the campaign ended, the Broncos released the veteran, and he underwent neck surgery.

Seahawks Receiving a Major Boost

Carlos Hyde left Houston Texans after just one year, and a pretty solid one. In 16 games played, from which he started 14, the 29-year old posted 1,070 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns, becoming one of the most important pieces in the Texans attack. However, after David Johnson arrived from the Falcons, it was obvious that something needed to change, which is why Hyde left.

Pete Carroll immediately used a chance to test the experienced RB, offering him a one-year deal, which will probably be succeeded with a better contract if Hyde pleases the famous coach.

Seattle now has a superb backfield, with him and Chris Carson, and a duo able to demolish pretty much every defense in the league. Hyde is aware that the Seahawks have plenty of potentials, and that if healthy, they can go all the way, which is why he didn’t hesitate to take the proposal.
