A strong last quarter provided the Dallas Cowboys their fifth of the season, this time in New York against the Giants 37-18. Dak Prescott managed to set up two touchdowns, and the Cowboys defense provided another one to seal a triumph against the great rival.
Yet, Prescott didn’t start the game well at all. He threw an interception on the first snap of the game, setting on fire the crowd at MetLife stadium. The teams exchanged field goals in the first period, with Aldrick Rosas hitting a 21-yard long FG, while Brett Maher’s shot was a bit longer, 35-yards.
The second period started superbly for the Giants, who delivered nine straight points. Daniel Jones threw a one-yard TD pass to Cody Latimer, and Rosas posted another FG afterward. But all that faded out once hosts began making mistakes. At first, the defense was terrible when Blake Jarwin scored a 42-yard touchdown, after being left alone.
Following that, Jones threw an interception, which was his first of three turnovers this Monday night. As time ran out, Maher scored a field goal from 52 yards, bringing the lead to the Cowboys’ side for the first time. Early on in the third, Giants’ QB fumbled the football, and Maher once again got a field goal out of that, but Rosas responded on the other side. That was all in the third sequence, but it was obvious that Dallas had the momentum at this point.
It was Prescott who found Michaell Gallup for a 15-yard touchdown pass, and two plays later Amari Cooper for a 45-yard TD. These two drives were 164 yards combined, and Prescott was leading them perfectly.
“I’ve been able to battle adversity, we are a tough team, just got to get out on our own way, continue to stay focused, and that is what we were able to do in that game, and come out with a win,” he said.
Dallas’ QB ended the contest with 257 yards, 22 of 35 for three TDs, and one interception. He had a huge help in Ezekiel Elliot, who rushed for 139 yards on 23 carries. Amari Cooper caught four passes for 80 yards, while Jason Witten had eight receptions for 58 yards.
Until the end of the match, Cowboys’ CB Jourdan Lewis recovered Jones’ second fumble of the night and returned it all the way to the end zone for a 63-yard TD.
This was Jones’ eighth fumble this season, which is the highest number in the NFL right now. After becoming a starter and posting two wins, he is experiencing difficulties currently, as his team has five consecutive defeats. The rookie was 26 of 41 last night, for 210 yards, and one touchdown. He suffered five sacks for 40 negative yards, and rushed for 54.
Saquon Barkley recorded a season-low 28 yards on the ground but was the top receiver with 67 in 6 receptions.
The Giants are now 2-7, and it seems that chances for the playoffs are gone for the franchise from the Big Apple. Their next opponents are city rivals, the Jets.
Meanwhile, Dallas 5-3, goes to Minnesota and is still on top of the NFC North.
