Gilbert Arenas thinks Vince Carter shouldn’t come back to play another season in the NBA. Agent 0 as the fans called Arenas, believes Carter doesn’t have the quality to play elite basketball anymore. According to his opinion, there are much better younger players who won’t make it to the roster because of Carter.
Arenas didn’t hesitate to tell his opinion on the whole matter and was direct as always. He wrote on his Twitter account that the only thing which motivates the former Toronto Raptors legend is to set a new record in seasons played in the league.
“You’re not playing for anything, but in his mind, he’s playing for the title of most seasons played,” Arenas wrote.
Carter is the oldest active player in the league and has played 21 seasons so far. For Arenas, that is too much. The former Washington Wizards thinks Carter should turn himself towards other areas, like coaching or managing duties in the franchise as an executive. The experience he has would have a greater impact on the results than his current quality. He then again mentioned the fact that a lot of players who won’t make it to the roster have a higher value than Carter.
“Vince should be on the bench as a coach or in the office giving his input,” Arenas said. “That’s a roster spot. You have kids who are 27 in the Big3 that should be in the NBA. “
The whole situation might demotivate younger guys who know that they aren’t going to play because of someone’s record chase. It is a bad example for the future which needs to be avoided per Agent Zero.
Arenas’ comments have caused huge reactions on social networks. Some are claiming that he has a point, while others disagree with him. Carter is a huge legend, and many believe that he should be respected even if he doesn’t have a big influence on the court.
After coming from North Carolina University, he was picked as the fifth overall pick in the 1998 draft by the Toronto Raptors. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1999 and was in All-Rookie first team. Throughout his career, Carter was elected to be an All-Star 8 times, and was a two-time All-NBA. He created a legacy which will stay behind him and established himself as one of the best dunkers in the history of the game, some claiming the best.
Back in 2000, at the All-Star game, Carter made several dunks which are already legendary. That is considered to be the best ever All-Star contest.
After the Raptors, he played for the New Jersey Nets, the Orlando Magic, and became a journeyman afterward changing several teams – Phoenix, Dallas, Memphis, Sacramento before joining Atlanta. The player himself stated that he feels nice in Georgia and that he would like to end his career there. The young team around him suits him perfectly, and on the other side, he is their mentor on the floor.
Vincanity became the oldest player in history who played more than 45 minutes at one game as a Hawk. Now he aims to take another record down. For some, it is a legit decision, for others not.
