- Ronaldo scored two goals in Juventus’ win at Camp Nou, 0-3.
- Manchester United suffered an exit from the UCL, following a 3-2 loss in Leipzig.
- PSG vs. Istanbul Basaksehir match was interrupted due to an alleged racial slur used by the fourth referee.
Juventus Ferocious in Barcelona
Even though the final result was 0-3 for the Old Lady, the impression was that the Italians could have scored at least one or two goals more. Juventus came to Spain with one thing on their mind, and that is to avenge a 0-2 defeat in Turin, and not only did they fulfill the mission, but made one step further. That earned them a top spot in Group G.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, both times from the penalty, while the American international, Weston McKennie, put his name on the scoresheet as well.
“Scoring here is always special for me. With Messi, we have shared the last 12-13 years of our lives. It’s always good to face him,” Ronaldo said.
In the same group, Dynamo Kyiv won 1-0 against Ferencvaros, earning a place in the Europa League group stage.
Man United’s Nightmare in Germany
Ole Gunnar Solskajer failed to lead his United to the Champions League’s knockout stage after RB Leipzig triumphed over Red Devils last night, 3-2. For a brief moment, Manchester’s fans hoped that their favorites might pull out a sensation, as they scored twice in a short period during the last 10 minutes, cutting the deficit from 3-0 to 3-2. However, they didn’t have enough power to net once more.
“We started the game too slowly. We weren’t good enough in the first 20 minutes. We weren’t at it, and they scored from their first two chances. We failed to deal with the crosses, and that’s why we’ve been beaten,” said Harry Maguire.
Leipzig took a 2-0 lead until halftime and added one more goal shortly following the start of the latter 45 minutes. The scorers for the Germans were Angelino, Haidara, and Kluivert.
On the other side, Bruno Fernandes (penalty) in the 80th and Konate (own goal) two minutes later netted for United.
RB needed a win there, and they advanced to the next stage, while United continues its international venture in the Europa League.
Along with RB, PSG will advance from Group H as well, but their last night’s match against Istanbul didn’t end. Turkish champions’ players abandoned the pitch claiming that the fourth referee used a racial slur at one of their members. It is expected that the contest resumes this Wednesday, and UEFA is still investigating this case.
Lazio In the Round of 16
After 20 years of waiting, Lazio reached the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. They played 2-2 at home against Club Brugge, escaping last-moment death, with Brugge having excellent chances to make a shock.
Along with the Eagles, Borussia Dortmund will proceed from Group F. The Millionaires came back from a 1-0 minus at the halftime against Zenit, to win 1-2.
At last, Group E saw Chelsea and Sevilla securing the top two spots even before last night’s events. The Blues played 1-1 at home against Krasnodar, while Sevilla routinely added three more points in France against Rennes, 1-3.
