- Lewis Hamilton won the Styrian GP this Sunday.
- Valtteri Bottas completed a one-two for Mercedes in this one, indicating that this might be another dominant season for the German manufacturer.
- Ferrari suffered a catastrophe with their drivers clashing with one another.
Hamilton Convincing
The six-time champ was leading from start until the end, and his victory in Sunday’s contest wasn’t questionable at all. The Brit would once again show his dominance, leaving the competition behind, suggesting that he still is the no.1 candidate for winning the driver’s competition title, once again.
“Firstly big thank you to my team. What a weird year but great to be back driving with this kind of performance. The team did a fantastic job, it was just for me to bring it home,: Hamilton said, following the race.
This is his 85th victory, and after seeing the current situation in the F1 caravan over these two weeks, it seems that Brit would add several more during this campaign. Michael Schumacher’s 91 wins could be reached pretty soon.
His team colleague, Valtteri Bottas, was second, jumping over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who was trying to reach the champion, but without too much success. Eventually, his wore tires were the main reason why he slipped to the third position.
“I tried to push for victory, but we are just a bit too slow. I pushed as hard as I could. I tried to make it difficult for Valtteri to pass me, even though I knew he was going to get me the next lap,” Verstappen explained to the reporters.
Carlos Sainz Jr. recorded the fastest lap in Styrian Grand Prix. The young Spaniard is slowly making his way around the caravan, and it seems that he might become the nicest surprise of this championship. He ended ninth, manging to snap some point there also.
Alexander Albon, Verstappen’s teammate from Red Bull finished fourth, with Lando Norris from McLaren following the Thai-Brit driver. Two Racing Points were next – Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll, sixth and seventh. Daniel Ricciardo from Renault finished eight.
Ferrari’s Disaster
Two Prancing Horses collided with one another, because of Charles Leclerc’s aggressive approach while trying to overtake Sebastian Vettel. He would accept the responsibility after the race, saying that he is the only one who needs to be blamed for this situation.
“I apologised [to Vettel],” said Leclerc. “Obviously, excuses are not enough in times like this. I am just disappointed in myself. I’ve done a very bad job today. I let the team down.”
Even though both drivers continued to race after their collision, they would have to withdraw from the race later.
There is definitely something bad going on in Ferrari. The performances are below any decent expectations, and also, it appears that the chemistry between their drivers additionally deteriorated.
What will happen with arguably the biggest team in the F1 this season is a big enigma.
The next race is in six days’ time at the famous Hungaroring.
