Wojnarowski Shuts Down all the Speculations
Earlier this month, the news broke out that Kevin Durant might be back on the floor if the season continues. At the time, this speculation created a lot of hype, because of the player and his status.
However, it seems that such a scenario won’t be seen. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the most influential NBA insider, the Brooklyn Nets are not interested in risking with KD, and that they won’t put him back in the game until the next campaign.
“Kevin Durant’s not coming back to the Nets this year,” Wojnarowski said during ‘The Woj Pod’ podcast. “That’s not happening. They’re not playing him.”
Durant is currently recovering from the complicated Achilles tendon injury, which forced him to sit out the entire last summer and the majority of this season. The doctors were predicting his return somewhere in May, but nobody at that point mentioned would he play if the Nets reach the playoffs.
Sean Marks, the general manager of the franchise from Brooklyn, sparked the stories and the imagination of the fans when he recently had an interview for one newspaper back home in New Zealand. He would leave possibility for Durant’s comeback, by saying that he doesn’t know when is Durant coming back, but that the player looks excellent at the moment.
“I can tell you this though — before the pandemic, he looked like Kevin Durant and that’s a good thing,” Marks said.
Stories Emerging About KD’s Comeback
His interview immediately set the internet on fire and was a trigger for all sorts of debates, from those who were suggesting that the player’s comeback would be only to get back the feeling with no pressure regarding the results, up to those who were saying that the Nets could attack the ring.
The league was stopped with almost one-third of its games yet to be played, which leaves a reasonable presumption that Durant might come back on the floor. The Nets are in a solid position when talking about the playoffs, and are currently seventh in the East half a game ahead of the Orlando Magic, meaning that they are probably going to enter the postseason.
All these factors are creating a picture that Marks maybe wanted to hint Durant’s return, but the recent comments from Wojnarowski shut down the hopes of all those who wanted this to happen. Apparently, the management plans wait until the start of the next campaign, and then to pair him with Kyrie Irving.
This duo was projected to attack the title at some point, and it is quite possible that the Nets aren’t willing to risk with only Durant on the court.
KD came to Brooklyn last summer after a trade with the Golden State Warriors that saw D’Angelo Russell heading in the other direction. He has a four-year deal worth $164 million.
