Pulev Rips Joshua

Kubrat Pulev called out his next opponent, Anthony Joshua, saying that the Brit is coward and promised him a beating in the ring once they meet sometime this summer.

Pulev had a big interview for SkySports, in which he spoke about many things, among them the fact that Joshua specifically demanded to meet him in London. According to the mandatory challenger from Bulgaria, that is a sign of fear.

“Picking a certain destination is for cowards. For those who prefer to talk a lot rather than act,” Pulev stated. “We offered various destinations – from Istanbul to Las Vegas, New York or Saudi Arabia. And then I got the reply that Joshua would come up against me only in London. Otherwise, there would be no fight at all.”

For a long time, those who doubt in Joshua are suggesting that the champion can’t fight properly outside England. After his loss against Andy Ruiz in the USA, they got even more ammo to criticize the IBF, WBA, and WBO titleholder.

AJ bounced back and regained his belts by outclassing Ruiz in the rematch, but doubts about his abilities outside homeland still remain.

That is why Puled started the entire interview with this topic. The Bulgarian is an experienced fighter and for sure knows how to play mind games and put pressure on his rival. With 39 years of age and only one loss in 29 matches, he more than capable of doing things like this.

The “Cobra” as the fans call him, suffered that one defeat against Wladimir Klitschko in November 2014. It was a fight for the IBF, the Ring, and lineal heavyweight titles. After that failure, he would recover pretty well, defeating names like Dereck Chisora, Samuel Peter, and Tyson Fury’s brother, Hughie fury.

Massive Competition in Heavyweight Division

The heavyweight boxing division became more than interesting in the last few years, and it seems that for the first time after the early ’90s, this is the period when fans can’t decide which fighter is the best.

Pulev spoke about that also, saying that he can’t say one name which stands above all the others.

“There still isn’t one who is the best. All in the top 10 are good boxers, but the best one is yet to be decided. That’s precisely the reason why heavyweight boxing is currently so interesting and unpredictable.”

His fight with Joshua was set for June 20 in London at Tottenham Hotspur stadium. However, it was canceled on April 3 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Right now, the promoters are trying to find a new date for the clash. In the meantime, stories about a possible super-fight between Joshua and Fury emerged. Still, Pulev shut them all down, saying that he won’t step aside and allow an all-British fight for the best in the heavyweight division.
