COVID-19 pandemic is spreading and taking casualties all around the world. The latest news from Europe is suggesting that Juventus’ star Paulo Dybala and the legendary AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini tested positive on Coronavirus. In the meantime, the former Real Madrid chairman, Lorenzo Sanz, died from this vicious illness.
Dybala and Maldini Have COVID-19
The Argentinian forward shared the news on his Instagram account, saying that he and his girlfriend, Oriana Sabatini, both have Coronavirus, but that at the moment, they don’t feel any symptoms and are feeling well. The two will stay in quarantine until recovering.
Hi everyone, I just wanted just to inform you that we have received the results for the Covid-19 test, and both Oriana and I have tested positive,” said Juventus’ player. “Luckily, we are in perfect conditions.”
Rumors about Dybala’s health began circling the internet for a while. He is in self-isolation since March 11, but until now, there weren’t any pieces of information about him being positive on the virus.
Dybala is the third Juventus player who has COVID-19, after Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi. Rugani was the first one discovered, and in the meantime, his wife, who is pregnant, also tested positive.
Bad news came from Milan as well, where five-time Champions League champion, and seven-time Serie A winner, Paolo Maldini, found out that he too has Coronavirus. Along with Paolo, his son Daniel is infected also. The two are feeling fine at the moment, and both were in self-isolation for two weeks.
AC Milan issued a statement in which the club confirms this case, saying that their legend and the current technical director underwent a test on Thursday and that it came back positive.
Lorenzo Sanz Dies From COVID-19
The person who brought back the old glory to Real Madrid, Lorenzo Sanz, died last night at the age of 76. The former chairman of Los Blancos, who put the foundation for Real’s domination in the 21st century, passed away after being infected by the virus.
“He did not want to go to the hospital until he was short of air and he was getting worse,” his sone Fernando Sanz said. “They put him inside and told him that he was bad, with little oxygen in his blood. He said he had a low fever and did not want to collapse the system.”
Sanz was in charge of Real in the moments when the club experienced a catastrophic situation in all the aspects of the organization. He would bring Predrag Mijatovic with his own money, and snap a 32-year long frustration of not winning the European title.
Mijatovic scored a game-winning goal in 1998 UCL finals in Amsterdam against Juventus, which launched Real back on the throne, after decades of wandering around. But not only that, Sanz won another UCL two years later, when Los Blancos defeated Valencia.
Although he lost the elections in 2000 to Florentino Perez, to whom he remained in excellent relationships, the fans consider Sanz to be one of the greatest ever leaders of the club. He began signing superstars and made the team tempting for top players again. Truly, this is a massive loss for Real Madrid and the sport in general.
Once again, we are appealing for all to stay at home, and to follow the guidelines provided by your health department. Stay safe.
