Inches were separating the Seattle Seahawks from clinching the No.1 seed in the NFC. That was the distance between Jacob Hollister and the endzone. That last push of the Seahawks didn’t change the result, and the San Francisco 49ers went home with a 26-21 win.
Russell Wilson was leading the last attack of the Seahawks, and on fourth-and-12, he threw an 11-yard pass to John Ursua, who stopped at the one-yard line.
But instead of utilizing that moment, the hosts were confused, and they didn’t succeed in starting the attack on time. They were penalized with five yards, and didn’t recover well from that. On the last attempt, Wilson was aiming Hollister, who was stopped by Dre Greenlaw on the very line of the end zone.
It was a tackle worth gold for the guests.
“I just, made a tackle that my coaches and teammates would be proud of. Just happy with how the game ended and happy to be able to make the play,” he stated following the game.
San Francisco was ahead throughout the entire match, but we need to say that they never had a chance to break the hosts who kept coming after them.
Jimmy Garropolo wasn’t that lethal as he knows, and the 49ers QB used his runningbacks to execute. Raheem Mostert, with two touchdowns and Deebo Samuel with one, posted all scores for the guests. The latter one also had 102 yards through the air in 5 catches.
Garropolo was 18-of-22 for 285 yards without a touchdown, interception, or fumble. He was praising the defense following the game, saying that they, in fact, won the game, not the offensive part of the team.
On the other side, Marshawn Lynch was back to the field where he became one of the greatest ever. He had one touchdown but rushed for just 34 yards on 12 carries. The Beast Mode wasn’t too happy because of that score, as he wanted his team to win this one.
“It felt good. But at the end of the day, we play to win,” Lynch said.
Wilson threw two TD passes, one to DK Metcalf and one to Tyler Lockett, having 233 yards, 25-for-40. After the game, he stated that even though the Seahawks lost, he still believes that his team has what it takes to win the Super Bowl.
“We have everything we need. We have what it takes. We believe in that locker room,” Wilson spoke at the press conference. “It’s a new season…man, the great thing is, it all starts at a 0-0 record. …We have everything that we could need. We have everything that it takes.”
The Seahawks are traveling to Philadelphia to meet the Eagles who won the NFC East after beating the New York Giants last night. The winner of this Wild Card matchup will meet with the Green Bay Packers at the Lambeau Field in two weeks’ time.
The 49, however, are hosting the better from the clash between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings, and it seems that Jimmy G and the boys have a much tougher matchup than the second-placed Packs.
In the AFC, two Wild Card games will see the Texans hosting the Bills, the Patriots awaiting the Tennessee Titans.
