Liverpool Rips Leicester City on the Road, 4-0

According to some experts, there wasn’t a more dominant team in the English Premier League since its foundations than Liverpool. Last night, Jurgen Klopp’s guys visited the second-placed team in the standings, Leicester City, and showcased why many think that the EPL title race is over.

The Reds won 4-0, annihilating the hosts in each and every aspect of play. Everything will be clear to you once we say that Leicester didn’t have a single shot one goal. The difference between these two sides was more than obvious, and after the match, all those who hoped that Leicester might repeat the miracle from 2016 had a reality check.

“People were trying to put us in a race with Liverpool, but we know where we are,” said Liverpool’s former and Leicester’s current manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Right from the beginning, the Reds took over the command on the pitch, pressuring the hosts in front of their goal. Salah, Mane, and Firmino attacked Leicester’s defenders, not allowing them even to start organizing the attack. Hosts resisted until the 31st minute when Firmino scored the first of his two goals at King Power stadium.

Throughout the opening 45 minutes, Leicester didn’t have a single goal attempt. It was all about Liverpool on the field, and Rodgers admitted that after the event.

“We didn’t have enough patience in the first half. We never secured the ball, which meant we had to defend for long periods, really.”

In the span of seven minutes midway through the second half, the European and the world champs had a burst that sealed this contest. Liverpool would score three times, to put an end to all the doubts about their domination in this campaign.

James Millner doubled the lead from the penalty, in the 71st, Firmino added a second to his tally three minutes later, and Trent Alexander-Arnold closed this event in the 78th minute.

“We were very concentrated, and the goals were absolutely nice and an important day for us,” Klopp shared his point of view for this match.

The German manager, as well as several other players of his team, insisted that the title race is not decided yet, and that this win is nothing more than just one step on the long path. With all the bad experiences from previous seasons, the crew from Anfield doesn’t want to speak about the trophy.

Since the season started, Liverpool recorded 17 wins and one draw. Right now, they have 13 points more than the Foxes, along with a game in hand. Manchester City might be closer after tonight’s match against Leicester, but they too have one game more than the Reds.

That is a clash against West Ham, which had to be delayed due to Liverpool’s duties at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The next challenges for these two clubs are set for tomorrow and the day after. Leicester faces West Ham on the road, while Liverpool hosts Wolverhampton on Sunday.

After that, Rodgers’ team travels up north to Newcastle on the first day of the New Year, while Liverpool hosts Sheffield United on January 2.
