Anderson Silva is the biggest name Uriah Hall defeated during his professional career. But instead of celebrating following the victory, Prime Time looked disappointed and depressed. It was because he beat his role model and a person who he respects very much.
“You’re the reason why I’m doing this. You’re still one of the greatest,” Hall said to Silva while being on his knees next to the rival who was recovering from an earlier knockout.
The bout was stopped at 1:24 of the fourth round, which was when the judge in the ring had to step in and save Silva from Hall’s surge. Earlier, the Jamaican hit the rival with a hard right hand, which took him down on the ground, and after that went to finish the job.
Silva was already in a similar situation near the end of the previous sequence, but it was the horn which saved his skin on that occasion. Hall would use the same recipe, a strong right, to knock the Brazilian off balance and attack.
Overall, the fight was not very interesting until that moment, with both guys being very careful in their respective approaches, not mixing any combinations or trying to take some initiative. There were some punches here and there, but it was nothing spectacular.
The UFC president was firm in his speech that suggested Silva’s retiring. White told the journalists about Spider’s age and condition, pointing out that he couldn’t stand during the post-fight interview.
“He had to sit down and do an interview. I made a big mistake and I shouldn’t have let him fight this fight tonight.”
White also said that Uriah Hall threw 11 punches in the second round and that he isn’t even among the organization’s best hitters.
“You fight any of these other savages, he’ll be in big trouble, and he’ll take a load of punishment.”
Since losing the belt against Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva had just one win and lost multiple matches, this being the second straight via knockout following last year’s one against Jared Cannonier. With all these unnecessary defeats, some of them being humiliating, many think that Silva ruined what would be the greatest MMA career ever.
On the other side, Uriah Hall has three wins in a row, and with 36-years of age, dreams to get a chance to fight for the title. He defeated Bevon Lewis, Antonio Carlos Junior, and now Silva, which gives Hall the right to hope that his next opponent would be one of the best in the middleweight division.
The list of possible opponents is long and includes Yoel Romero, Jack Hermansson, Paulo Costa, and many others.
