Argonauts Interested in Former NFL Starter

Per several sources, the Toronto Argonauts now have the right to negotiate with Kizer, who is currently without a team at the moment. The 24-year old recently lost his job at the Las Vegas Raiders after being waived.

The Raiders landed Kizer back in September 2019, but he didn’t play a single game and was the third quarterback on the depth chart. Apparently, Jon Gruden wasn’t interested in waiting for his development but decided to move on from this player.

On the other side, the Argonauts are more than happy to try to get their hands on Kizer, as they need a refreshment on the field. After winning the Grey Cup in 2017, beating the Stampeders in the title game, the team from Toronto had two very bad seasons, posting losing records in both, 4-14.

They released head coach Corey Chamblin and appointed Ryan Dinwiddie, meaning that that the management plans a complete reconstruction. At the recent CFL Draft, Argonauts picked up Dejon Brissett as the second choice, a wide receiver from Virginia, and a brother of the Raptors’ player Oshea.

If by any chance, they land Kizer too, the team could create a lethal duo that has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

Kizer’s Pale NFL Episode

The Cleveland Browns picked the Toledo-born, as the 52nd overall pick. At the time, he was a four-star recruit, coming out of Notre Dame University, and a solid dual-threat.

The Browns gave him a four-year deal worth $4.94 million and a signing bonus of $1.73 million. He was immediately thrown into the fire, ahead of Brock Osweiler, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan. Unfortunately, his rookie season was one of the worst ever in the league. Not only did he had 11 TD passes and 22 interceptions, but managed to lose all 15 starts and lead the team to an NFL-worst record.

In the end, Kizer had 2,894 yards through the air and 489 on the ground. Cleveland didn’t want to hold him anymore, and he ended up in Green Bay following a trade.

On his debut against the Chicago bears, Kizer replaced Aaron Rogers but played poorly. He posted 55 yards and an interception for the return TD. In total, he appeared three times, had 187 yards and two interceptions. Green Bay, too, didn’t want to waste time, and they released the QB in August 2019. Eventually, the Raiders gave him a chance but he couldn’t use it.

The next few weeks will show if there is still a place for Kizer in the NFL. So far, there was no interest shown from other teams, which increases the possibility of him heading up north. It would be a chance for the player to revive his career, and for the Argonauts to bounce back and become a competitive side once again.
