The New England Patriots recorded their sixth win in a row, and still undefeated since the start of the 100th NFL season, Bill Belichick’s boys were confident against the New York Giants this Thursday night, posting a 35-14 victory.
The game was pretty interesting for two reasons. The first one is that the fans at the Gillette Stadium had a chance to see three touchdowns of the defensive teams. The second reason was that Tom Brady had a show of his own.
One of the best, if not the best quarterback of all times, reached an impressive landmark. He eclipsed Payton Manning on the all-time passing list and is now second behind Drew Brees. Having in mind that the Saints’ QB is currently out, the gap between the two will most definitely close, and at the moment, it is only 2,588 yards.
But not only that. The six-time NFL champion had two quarterback sneaks, which ignited the fans in Foxborough. And both of them came in the moments when the game was on the line. With 36 seconds until the end of the first halftime, Brady scored to lift the Pats to 21-14. He would eventually add another TD with 3:49 to wrap up this contest.
New England’s leader didn’t want to speak about his personal achievements and was more thrilled about his team starting the season with 6 wins.
“I’ happy we won. Happy we get 6-0,” said Brady at the press conference. “We just grinded it up pretty good.”
He ended the game with 334 yards, 31 of 41, one interception, and without a TD pass. Julian Edelman was his primary target with 113 yards 0n 9 receptions.
Pats’ defensive team was unstoppable, as they scored twice. The first time following a blocked punt, when Chase Winowich returned it for 6 yards. The second time was when Kyle Van Noy recovered and returned a fumble during the midpoint of the fourth. Besides that, they intercepted rookie QB Daniel Jones three times.
New York was dealing with a lot of problems coming into this match. They were without all the primary weapons in the attack. Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, and Wayne Gallman. So pretty much Jones was in a helpless situation. He had 161 yards, 15 of 31, one touchdown pass besides those three interceptions.
“I didn’t play well by any means,” Jones said. “I don’t think it was overwhelming. I just made bad plays.”
The Giants resisted as much as they could, but in the end, they couldn’t compete with the reigning champions. Their defense was solid, but couldn’t endure the constant hard pressure of the Pats’ attacking team, as they spent too much time on the court.
Up next, the Giants who are 2-4 now will head back home and prepare for the contest with the Arizona Cardinals. It will be a nice opportunity for Jones to face the No.1 pick from this draft Kyler Murray, and to post a win against him.
On the other side, the Patriots are playing against the pale New York Jets on the road, also next week.
