Zidane and Real in Problems

Real Madrid lost against Shakhtar at home, making a pretty bad intro for the El Clasico this weekend. The pale Los Blancos failed to deliver for the second straight game, and after suffering a defeat against Cadiz in La Liga, also at home, Zidane’s boys disappointed their fans once more.

The guests from Ukraine had a 0-3 lead at halftime, scoring three goals in the late phase of the opening 45 minutes. Shakhtar’s Tete was in the middle of attention, with his involvement in all three goals. He scored the first one, took a shot that deflected Varane, and ended behind Courtois for the second goal before assisting Solomon for the third score.

Real responded early in the second, with Luka Modric and Vinicius netting between the 54th and 59th minute. Even though there was enough time left, the hosts couldn’t reach at least one point from this event.

Bayern Keeping the Same Pace

The second day of the UEFA Champions League saw the champions, Bayern Munich, continuing to roll at the same pace as in the previous edition. The Germans annihilated one of Spain’s best teams, Atletico Madrid, 4-0, leaving the impression that they played with 60% of their power.

Kingsley Coman delivered two hits, Corentin Tolisso and Leon Goretzka one.

“We faced a tricky team, but we dealt with them fantastically. We were so clinical in front of the goal. I’m really happy with the result,” said Hansi Flick, Bayern’s head coach.

It was 2-0 in the first half, with Atletico trying to change things early in the second, but without any results. Furthermore, they allowed two more goals until the end, experiencing the frightening power of the hosts.

The second pair of Group A, saw Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow playing 2-2.

Liverpool Survives Amsterdam

In its first match without Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool won. The Reds were better on the road against Ajax, 1-0, with the only goal being scored by one of the hosts’ players, Nicolas Tagliafico, during the first half. The match was, surprisingly, without too many scores.

Group D, however, saw one high-scoring affair, in Denmark, where Atalanta demolished the hosts, Midtjylland, 0-4. The Italians showed great performance, indicating that they want to repeat last year’s success.

Finally, Group C matches both concluded with the hosts’ victories. Manchester City defeated Porto 3-1, rallying following an early lead of the Portuguese team. Pep Guardiola’s crew would show its power in the second half, scoring two goals and routinely closing this event.

After a hard and fierce battle, the Greek champions, Olympiacos, managed to beat Marseille in the final moments of the match, as Ahmed Hassan netted the only goal of this contest.
