Glasgow Rangers Victorious at Celtic Park

Glasgow Rangers have defeated their biggest rivals, Celtic, in the 421st episode of the Old Firm derby. The final result of today’s clash was 2-0 for the Gers.

One of the biggest soccer derbies in the entire world saw an intense battle and fight as always once these two sides meet. However, in the end, the guests went home with three massive points, and more importantly, a victory over the fierce opponent.

Rangers reached a win much easier than expected, as they came into this match as underdogs according to the bookies. However, that didn’t bother Steven Gerrard and his crew to strike early on, scoring after just nine minutes of play.

Connor Goldson redirected James Tavernier’s set-piece, putting the ball behind Celtic’s goalkeeper Barkas. It was a shocker for the home team who didn’t have a proper answer to all that happened on the pitch, and things haven’t changed until the end of the first 45 minutes.

Old Firm derby didn’t have any spectators this year, and the empty Celtic Park apparently demoralized the hosts, who didn’t have the usual support from more than 55,000 nosy fans.

Rangers used that in the best possible way, decreasing the tempo of the play, and trying to hold the ball as much as possible, preventing Celtic from reaching a momentum.

Shocking Start of the Second

That tactic worked perfectly, with Goldson delivering the second score of the game in the best possible moment. Nine minutes into the second half, he would have a lot of luck in the goalkeeper area, with the ball deflecting back to him twice before managing to put it into the net.

Such a scenario pretty much knocked out the hosts, who became nervous and frustrated, which only benefited the guests. There was one more chance on both sides until the end of the match, but the result stayed the same, 0-2 for the Gers, whose celebration broke the silence at the stadium following the final whistle.

“It’s a big win. It’s always a big challenge when you come here with a lot of pressure and a lot of anxiety, but we’ve controlled the game, both with the ball and without the ball.” Rangers’ coach Steve Gerrard said.

The home team had problems as four players, including Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie, skipped today’s clash due to coronavirus infection.

“We were pretty decimated coming into the game with COVID and injuries, but we felt we had a strong enough team,” Celtic boss Neil Lennon told the reporters following the event.

His team is after the 10th consecutive title of the Scottish Premier League, and the Gers are trying to prevent that from happening. So far, they are doing fine, as Gerrard’s team sits first in the standings, four points away from Celtic.
