Patriots lose for the first time this season, Baltimore Ravens beat NE, 37-20

The New England Patriots lost their first match of the season, and the team that defeated them was the Baltimore Ravens. Led by a fantastic Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram, the hosts managed to outplay the super Bowl champions and record the sixth triumph of the campaign, 37-20.

With the fans chanting MVP to Jackson, the Ravens have inflicted the first loss of the season to Bill Belichick’s team. But that is not the only thing which matters here. Knowing that they can beat the champs will most definitely boost the morale of the Ravens.

“We got a lot of season left to play, so I worry about next game. I don’t really care about that. I appreciate it, but like I said before, I want something better than that,” said the sophomore quarter back.

Jackson had one masterful drive in the fourth when he spent 9:35 and eventually scored a touchdown, all in the moments when the game was on the line. With the result 30-20 for the hosts, the Patriots had the football and were advancing towards the Ravens’ end zone. Yet, Earl Thomas III picked Tom Brady’s pass and handed the possession to his offensive team. After that, it was all about Jackson.

He would eventually carry the ball for one yard and enter the end zone, and this pretty much decided the game, as there was no more time for the Pats to perform one of their miraculous comebacks. LJ ended the night with 163 yards, 17 of 23, and one TD toss.

“We’ve all got to do a better job. That includes everybody — period,” coach Bill Belichick said. “We competed out there, but it just wasn’t good enough. We all have to do a better job, starting with me.”

His Patriots, who have one of the best, if not the best, defense in the league, allowed 210 yards through the ground. Mark Ingram was superb and on 15 carries the Ravens RB had 115 yards. Jackson had 61 on 16, with two scores. Meanwhile, the Pats posted just 74 yards.

Tom Brady threw for 285 yards, 30 of 46, and one TD and interception each. His primary targets were Julian Edelman with 89 yards, in 10 catches, and the newest acquisition from the Atlanta Falcons, Mohamed Sanu, who caught one pass for a TD.

James White had 38 rushing yards, and a touchdown on nine carries.

We have to mention Marlon Humphrey, whose recovered fumble led to a 70-yard return, which stunned the Pats early in the third. In those moments, the Pats had a huge swing and were coming off a first-half closure in which they posted 13 straight points. Brady was looking to extend that and pull his team ahead for the first time in this match. He threw a pass to Edelman, but Patrick Onwuasor reacted superbly, stripping the ball from the wide receiver. Humphrey used that to go all the way.

Up next, we have the Ravens visiting Cincinnati next Sunday, while New England has a week off. After that, the champions head for Philadelphia to meet the Eagles in the rematch of the 2017 Super Bowl clash.
