Gustavo Bou Brings Three Points for New England

The only goal in this match came after Gustavo Bou’s superb volley in the 56th minute. The 30-year old Argentinian made that most important difference, and his team opened its participation in the Group C of the MLS is Back tournament.

It was a beautiful individual effort, with Bou receiving the ball on the edge of the box, following one cross from the right flank. He would then deceive one player, before smashing the ball in the upper net of Montreal’s goal. Impact’s goalie Diop couldn’t do anything while the football flew above his head.

“I’m very comfortable with the dynamic I’ve built with Carles Gil,” said Bou following the game. Gil was the one who assisted to the Argentinian before his fabulous strike.

“I’m the type of player that keeps playing,” he added, underlining that even in the moments his team wasn’t doing very well, they continued pushing forward.

The Revolution happened to be a better side in this one, as they had more shots on goal 4-2 and, in general, more goal attempts, 19-7.

Montreal did have a higher percentage of the ball in its feet, 59-41, but they couldn’t utilize that and breach the defensive line of the team from Foxborough.

The best chance in the entire match for the Impact, took place in the sixth minute of the stoppage time, with Ballou Tabla sending a strike towards the revolution net, but the goalkeeper Matt Turner made a miraculous one-handed save to keep three points for his team.

Turner had one more good reaction, in the 50th minute. That was when Max Urruti tried his luck, but Turner kept his focus, preventing anything from happening.

When mentioning chances, we need to say that the Revolution had a couple of not so great opportunities for scoring, but they didn’t have the power to finish them.

Impact’s head coach, Thierry Henry, stated that his team made several mistakes, which is the key to this loss.

“They wanted it more than us,” he said. “We made too many mistakes under no pressure, individually and as a team, to win this game.”

Henry Kneels Before and During the Game

The legendary French striker supports the BLM protest kneeling before the game and in an opening couple of minutes. Henry did that exactly until 8:46, and after that continued to give instructions to his players as usual.

“I sat down for 8 mins and 46 seconds, I guess you guys know why,” Henry said after the match. “It was just to pay tribute and show support to the cause. That was basically it. [It’s] pretty simple.”
