New England Patriots Beat the New York Jets on MNF, 30-27

  • The New England Patriots’ comeback in the final period brought them a Monday Night Football win, 30-27.
  • Nick Folk’s 51-yard field goal in the closing second of the contest decided the game.
  • Joe Flacco and the Jets played excellently until the middle of the fourth.
  • Cam Newton had a solid night.

Pats’ Playoff Hopes Still Alive

This victory was critical for New England, as they had four losses in a row and were falling down in the NFC Conference standings. Their playoff chances were getting slimmer and slimmer, and a match against the Jets had to be won.

It is quite possible that such pressure slowed down the guests from Foxborough, as they allowed a double-digit deficit at halftime. Coming into the fourth, the Pats were down 27-17 but somehow managed to grind out a victory. Nick Folk’s 51-yard FG in the last second was a difference-maker at MetLife stadium.

“This kicks us right where we want to be,” said Cam Newton after the match. “We just showed resilience here today. I’m just so happy for those guys in our locker room, who keep just battling back. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win.”

Super Cam had a good performance, with 274 passing yards, yet without a TD pass or an interception. However, he scored twice on the ground, once again showing that there isn’t a better QB in the league when it comes to executing in the red zone.

The Patriots looked lost, but they managed to score 13 points in a row in the final 15 minutes, and to play superb defense when needed the most. Though some of the Jets’ plays helped them, we need to add that.

Jacobi Meyers had 169 receiving yards, Damien Harris rushed for 71, and Rex Burkhead ran for 56 and a score.

Flacco’s Only Mistake Solves the Match

The former Super Bowl MVP was excellent until 6:04 before the end. With 27-20, he threw a deep pass on the first play of the Jets’ drive, and JC Jackson intercepted it. It turned out to be a devastating moment for the hosts, who were knocked out with that move.

“I’ve been rattling it around in my head. I don’t think I would’ve made a different decision in the moment, but obviously, I wish I had that one back,” he stated following the match.

Flacco was very good overall, with three touchdown passes and 262 yards through the air. He brought back some memories of himself playing several years ago when he led the Ravens to the Super Bowl. However, a poor finish ruined everything.

Breshad Perriman had two TD catches and 101 receiving yards, while Frank Gore added 46 rushing yards in 12 reps.

The Jets are in a bad place, and are looking helpless. They are having a bad year, and it seems that it might become even worse. Head coach Adam Gase is walking on a razor blade, with his job on the line.

Jets meet the LA Chargers on the road in the next round and meet the Dolphins after that. As for the Patriots, their next rivals are the Baltimore Ravens at home, followed by the Houston Texans on the road.
