General manager of the Brooklyn Nets, Sean Marks, shared rather bombastic news this Sunday night, saying that there is a possibility of seeing Kevin Durant on the court once the NBA season resumes.
While giving the interview for one of the magazines back home, Marks was asked does he think about Durant’s potential return after COVID-19 pandemic comes down. The player had an extra two months for his recovering, which was already progressing very well. Nets’ GM replied that they both didn’t want to talks about that and were focused on different matters right now.
“That’s a $110 million question,” Marks said. “In all seriousness, we’ve tried not to talk about his timeline a lot.”
Former New Zealand player who is trying to establish Nets as one of the best teams in the league, stated that before the pandemic broke out, Durant was starting to catch up with his usual rhythm and that he was on his way to reach the form from before the injury.
“I can tell you this though — before the pandemic, he looked like Kevin Durant, and that’s a good thing,” Marks said.
Marks also said that he didn’t want to pressure Durant into any decisions and that he wants to see him fully recovered before coming back on the court. Also, many forgot about KD’s infection with the COVID-19 virus and that he, as well as few other teammates, had to fight with that problem.
“When you’ve got enough invested in a player like Kevin, we’re never going to push him to come back. When the timing is right, he’ll be 100 percent when he gets on the court,” Marks added.
Nets gave a lot of money to one of the best players in the last decade. Durant has a four-year $164 million contract, which he signed with the Golden State Warriors before being traded to Brooklyn for D’Angelo Russell.
The 31-year old forward has two championship rings with the Warriors and two Finals MVP awards. Back in 2014, he would win the NBA MVP honors while wearing Oklahoma City Thunder jersey. Durant was projected to be the cornerstone of the Nets’ new team along with Kyrie Irving, who, likeways, recovers from injury at the moment. Uncle Drew also has a massive contract with the franchise from Brooklyn – $134 million for four years.
Unfortunately, the fans didn’t have the opportunity to see them playing together so far. Irving did appear in 20 games, but had to undergo a shoulder surgery which ruled him from the action until the end of the year.
The Nets are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference with 30 wins and 34 losses, and are slightly ahead of the Orlando Magic, who is sitting behind, tailing half a game. Even though the prospects of seeing Durant on the court until the end of the season are pretty slim, they are boosting the morale of the fanbase.
So far, there isn’t any official information about the resume of the league. The longer it takes for that to happen, the better the chances are to see KD playing.
