The Los Angeles Rams successfully overcame the Cleveland Browns on Sunday Night Football, posting a 20-13 win on the road in Ohio. Sean McVay’s guys didn’t play very well but managed to post a very important triumph and to keep their record perfect.
The Rams’ defense played a key role in the defining moments of the match. The Browns were four yards away from a win and had four downs to execute this chance. But Baker Mayfield couldn’t complete at least one of his four passes and was eventually picked off on the fourth.
“Unbelievable,” Sean McVay said. “It was really a great job by them. I just thought to be able to regather themselves. Four straight downs and fighting through it. They locked it down big time. It was just incredible.”
Though, Cleveland’s offense was again beneath the standards of decent play, especially Mayfield who can’t put together a few good drives. The former No.1 pick finished the game with 195 yards, throwing 18 competed passes in 36 attempts, for one touchdown and one interception. He didn’t look good at all, and that reflected upon the entire offense.
Meanwhile, the Browns’ defense was doing a good job, forcing the Rams to lose the ball three times, intercepting Goff twice. From game to game, they keep on improving, handing the chances to their colleagues from the attack, yet there is no result.
Sunday’s game was also marked with several bad play calls of the Browns’ head coach Freddie Kitchens. He too needs to be on the line for this defeat, and truth to be told, following the game, he said that.
“I gotta do a better job during the course of the week, putting these guys in better situations and then on game day,” he said. “So, if you’re looking to blame somebody, blame me. Don’t blame any of our players; don’t blame any of our other coaches — just blame me, because I can take it.”
The Rams’ connection Goff-Kupp once again started to provide results. Both touchdowns passes Goff threw were towards his favorite wide receiver, who looks perfectly fine. That nasty knee injury which bothered him before is gone, and the team from LA will once again have their magnificent trio Goff-Gurley-Kupp fully fit and ready to roll over all the opponents.
Goff threw 269 yards, 24 of 38, while Kupp had 11 receptions for 102 yards. Brandin Cooks had a nice match with 112 yards on 8 receptions, while Gurley rushed for just 43 yards.
On the other side, the sole touchdown was after Demetrius Harris caught a two-year pass by Mayfield. Landry had three catches for 62 yards, Odell 6 for 56, while Nick Chubb ran the ball 23 times for 96 yards.
The Browns are now playing against the Baltimore Ravens on the road, in a divisional matchup which has great importance. After that, Kitchen’s unit goes to San Francisco to play against the 49ers.
The Rams face Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Los Angeles, followed by a tough matchup in Seattle against the Seahawks one week later.
