Leicester City defeats Arsenal 2-0, captures the second place

Leicester City defeated Arsenal with 2-0, posting their fourth triumph in the last five games. It was Premier League’s game of the day this Saturday, and we can say that the Foxes completely deserved all three points.

Brendan Rodger’s crew continued its excellent streak of matches, grabbing the second place on the standings and inspiring the fans to once again dream about 2016, the season when they miraculously won the Premiership trophy. For Rodgers, the title is not an issue now, as his primary goal is reaching European competitions.

“We’re not really thinking about the title,” Rodgers said. “But if we can bring European football back here that would be great.”

The scorers for the hosts were Jamie Vardy and James Maddison, two of the leading players of the Foxes. After not so impressive first half, in which we saw Leicester’s attacks and constant pressure on Arsenal’s back line, the second 45 minutes brought the same, but it also had goals involved.

The first score came in the 68th minute, following a beautiful combination between several of Leicester’s players inside the Gunner’s box, which ended up with Vardy executing.

A few minutes later, the leading scorer of the EPL had a chance to double the lead, but Leno stopped his shot. However, Maddison managed to hit the back of the net in the 75th minute. The midfielder received Vardy’s assists in the box, quickly shifted the ball from one leg to another, and sent a laser-precise strike besides Leno. It was 2-0 for the hosts.

But that didn’t slow them down, and they continued in the same manners, wanting to add another goal.

On the other side, the guests from London didn’t come with anything worth mentioning besides Aubameyang’s disallowed goal at the start of the second half.

The pressure on Uani Emery because of bad results is slowly reaching its peak, and voices suggesting his departure are getting louder and louder. Arsenal is nowhere near the expected level of play, let alone the results desired. However, the Spanish manager is calm and sends messages of reassurance to the public.

“I know we are receiving criticism and I can accept it, that is normal if you are not winning matches. But my message to everyone at Arsenal would be to stay calm because we can improve.”

Arsenal is sixth in the standings with 17 points in 12 events, fourteen fewer than Liverpool, who currently holds the top spot and has a game in hand. The gunners haven’t won the latest four matches, which severely decreased their chances to reach the Champions League spot as Emery’s team is 8 points behind the fourth place.

Up next, they have a clash at home against Southampton, before traveling to Norwich to meet with the Canaries.

On the other side, Leicester is traveling to Brighton after the international break. Following the game against the Seagulls, Rodgers’ boys have two matches at their Kings Power stadium. the first versus Everton, and second against Watford, both teams from the lower part of the table.
