The Korean Zombie TKO’s Frankie Edgar at UFC Busan

Chan Sung Jung, otherwise known as the Korean Zombie, defeated Frankie Edgar yesterday at the UFC Fight Night 165 in Busan, South Korea. To be more precise, he annihilated the opponent.

In just 3:18, as the fight lasted, Jung  (16-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) landed 79 strikes on Edgar (23-8-1 MMA, 17-8-1 UFC), while the former UFC lightweight champion had only nine. It was pure one-sided domination right from the beginning until the end of this bout. The judge in the ring stopped it, preventing the further humiliation of the American who was shredded into pieces.

“When I first came out, I was ready to fight all five [rounds], 25 minutes,” Jung (16-5) said. “But my coaches and team said to me, ‘That’s not gonna happen.'”

At first, he sent Edgar on the canvas with a left hook followed by two more punches, and quickly tried to choke the Answer as the fans call the American. However, that didn’t happen, but the Korean fighter was still in control, sitting on Edgar’s back, and looking for a way to hurt him.

It was obvious even then that the guest in this fight has nothing to hope for, and the judge warned him on several occasions that he needs to get away or the bout ends there.

After catching some air and finally managing to get on his feet, Edgar ran onto a monstrous uppercut and was left without balance. A series of punches by Jung devastated the opponent, who was once again on the ground, only this time; there was no way out. The bout was stopped, and the celebration of the home crowd began.

“I want Volkanovski,” Jung said after the match, indicating that he feels ready for a title shot against the new champion.

But what could be problematic, is the fact that Volkanovski already stated that he wants to please Max Holloway and give him a rematch. Also, there is one other factor, and that is Volkanovski’s hand injury, which needs some time to heal. And knowing that he wants a rematch with the Blessed, all this could mean that Jung’s title shot might wait for some time.

However, there is a different scenario that could prevent that. While Volkanovski recovers, Jung and Holloway might clash, and the winner of that contest would take on the Aussie.

As for Edgar, once a great champion, it was evident that the time has rolled over him. He isn’t that ferocious guy who harassed his opponents anymore, but more of a veteran who serves for the younger fighters to improve their resume. Yet he still has championship manners, and he showed that after the match.

“Well, not what I had planned coming out here to South Korea, but win like a man and lose like one too. Hats off to the @KoreanZombie on a great performance. I think it may be time to cut this damn hair,” the Answer wrote on his Twitter account.

The next UFC event is January when Conor McGregor returns to the octagon against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone,
