All the talks about Kevin Durant‘s potential comeback to the court during this season are over now. The former MVP and the two-time champion with the Golden State Warriors clearly stated this Friday that he has no intention of playing for the Nets in the remainder of this campaign.
Durant added, that previously he and his doctors had a plan to skip this year and wait for the 2020/21 season. He intends to follow that recommendation.
“My season is over. I don’t plan on playing at all. We decided last summer when it first happened that I was just going to wait until the following season. I had no plans of playing at all this season.”
This might have disappointed the Nets’ and many other fans, but according to the player, it is the best possible solution for him.
All the talks regarding his comeback this season, started once the Nets’ GM Sean Marks revealed that the player looks excellent in training sessions and that he seems near his usual level of play. Also, once asked about the potential return this season, Marks’ answer was pretty unspecified, leaving the space for various speculations
At one moment, it was the central subject of all the sports media in the United States.
However, after evaluating all the circumstances closely, KD decided not to rush into anything and to wait the next season. The reason for that pressure and experience from previous similar situations.
“I was putting pressure on myself in previous injuries, wanting to hurry up and come back. I saw my teammates having fun and wanted to be out there. This time, I felt like I was more patient throughout the process,” said Durant.
His Nets would receive a major boost if KD came back, and they would become a respectable force in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Right now, they are seventh, slightly ahead of the Orlando Magic, but regardless of that, with Durant onboard, Brooklyn would definitely be a much better team.
Once mentioning his team, Durant stated that he isn’t sure about his presence in Orlando once the restart begins. For the moment, the 31-year old is located in Los Angeles, where he follows all the recovery guidelines provided by his doctors.
KD’s teammate, Kyrie Irving, also doesn’t want to come back this season, according to several sources. Uncle Drew underwent a season-ending surgery of his should, which bothered him for a long time.
In his 20 appearances during this campaign, it was obvious that Irving isn’t reaching his full potential, and that the health issues are causing him lots of problems.
Unfortunately, the fans won’t be able to see the fantastic duo this season. But once they get completely healthy, it would be a spectacle to watch Brooklyn.
