Jorge Masvidal gets the BMF belt, beats Nate Diaz

Jorge Masvidal got his BMF belt. He did that by defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244 after a doctor stopped the fight. Diaz had a massive cut above his eye, and the medical staff decided that it is too risky for him to continue fighting.

He wasn’t too happy about it, and neither was the crowd, but that didn’t change the referee’s decision to stop the event. The fans were expecting a fight that would probably go for a full five rounds, but it wasn’t possible.

However, Masvidal told during the interview in the ring, that he feels ready for another meeting. The Gamebred called out UFC to arrange another spectacle as soon as possible, as he wants to settle things between him and Diaz in a proper way.

“For a fact, I told Nate right now, let’s run it back,” Masvidal said in his postfight interview in the octagon. “UFC, make it happen. Let’s run it back. I don’t like to leave the ring like this with my opponent conscious. There’s only one way to do it, and that’s to baptize them, and I didn’t get to baptize Nate, so we’re going to run it back.”

Masvidal was better throughout the entire fight and was pretty authoritative in the octagon. His strong punches brought down Diaz on several occasions, but he couldn’t end the match. Already in the first, he managed to hurt Diaz and open a cut above his eye, following a strong elbow strike. Nate would later find himself on the floor, with Masvidal all over him, but managed to escape.

Later in the second, we saw the same thing when Masvidal kicked Diaz in the stomach, bringing him to the canvas. The Stockton-native was eager to go out and turn the tide in the third round, starting it furiously, and making Masvidal a bit defensive-minded. Yet, that didn’t last for too long, as both fighters got into an open fight in the middle of the octagon at the end of the same.

Meanwhile, the blood from the cut began to pour more and more, which forced the doctor to come in and evaluate the degree of the injury. Diaz was getting ready for the next round when the referee stopped the whole deal.

Although many felt frustrated because of it, according to Dana White, stopping the bout was simply necessary.

“I was looking at him, and I was going, maybe the fight shouldn’t have gone on, you know? His eyebrow was flopped over like this, and he’s got another cut underneath the eye,” said White.

The US President Donald Trump attended this match, and his arrival was welcomed with mixed reactions. Some of them were positive, while others were pretty negative. He has been known as a big fan of UFC and MMA in general.

As for the two guys and their next fight, it is up to the UFC to decide what is best. Both are ready to have a rematch, it is not up to them to decide.
