After being unhappy with the Jets for quite some time, Jamal Adams requested a trade yesterday. His actions indicated such development for quite some time, because he didn’t hide the displeasure with the current contract status.
He had one of such outbursts yesterday, writing a reply to one of the comments on his Instagram account. He mentioned Christian McCaffrey and his recently signed extension, saying he “got paid.” Eventually, the closure of the reply was:
“Ima protect myself just like an organization will look out for themselves at the end of the day, and if you guys don’t respect that, cool.” adding “Maybe it is time to move on!”
And indeed, Adams did act in accordance with his words, requesting a trade that afternoon.
Adam Schefter, who is the most reliable insider in the NFL, shared via his Twitter account yesterday that the player wants to be traded to one of these seven NFL franchises – Ravens, Cowboys, Texans, Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers, Seahawks.
It is evident that Adams wants to play in one Super Bowl contender and wishes to attack the ring and go after the money later.
The main dispute between him and the organization was about the contract extension, as Adams wanted to have one until the start of the next season. He was looking up to other players from draft class, as some of them already have or are about to have this question resolved.
The above-mentioned McCaffrey recently signed an extension with his Carolina Panthers, and on the other side, the Browns and the Chiefs are getting ready to strike a deal with Myles Garrett and Patrick Mahomes.
All this causes to much frustration with the Jets’ safety who is, truth to be told, one of the best defenders in the league.
Adams was No.6 at the 2017 NFL Draft. He came out of LSU, where he established himself as one of the most talented players in the entire generation.
The Jets picked him and he became their best defender right away, winning numerous awards. For instance, the is a two-time Pro-Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro, with the not that Adams earned the place in the First-Team All-Pro after this season.
Since he entered the league, there hasn’t been a single defensive back with more sacks than him -12. And not only that, he has six forced fumbles, two interceptions, 2,999 snaps, etc.
Because of all this, he wants a more lucrative contract. Right now, he has $3.6 million for the 2020 season and $9.9 million for 2021. According to some sources, he wants a salary in the range of CJ Mosley’s, which is $17 million. The clock is not ticking for the Jets who need to make a decision.
