Formula One officially confirmed the decision to start the 2020 season in Austria during July, and along with that announcement, revealed the schedule of the races.
Chase Carey, Formula 1 CEO stated that earlier today.
“We are pleased to be able to set out our opening eight-race calendar today and look forward to publishing our full calendar in the coming weeks.”
The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring is set for July 5, and seven days later, the same circuit will see another contest. A week afterward, the is reserved for the Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring.
The last weekend of July and the early days of August will see the famous British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and one week later, another race should take place at the same venue.
Between August 14 and 16, we have the Spanish Grand Prix, at Catalunya, and then the Belgian Grand Prix between August 28 and 30 at the legendary Spa Francorchamps. The last event on the list is the Grand Prix in Italy, at Monza, between 4-6 September.
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemics began to create problems, the Formula One executives and the highest authorities in FIA discussed possible solutions to various situations in the last few months.
Recently, they’ve been trying to find a suitable model for the upcoming races. As you see that one went well, but now there are many more things which need to be sorted out, most of them regarding the organization itself.
According to Carey, the fans won’t be able to attend any of these first 8 races. But after that, there might be some hope of having the spectators in the stands.
“While we currently expect the season to commence without fans at our races we hope that over the coming months the situation will allow us to welcome them back once it is safe to do, but we know the return of Formula 1 will be a welcome boost to sports fans around the world.”
It is very important to underline that Formula 2 and Formula 3 competitions are going to continue parallel with Formula One, which is a clear sign that the overall conditions in motorsports are improving.
Lewis Hamilton is the absolute favorite for defending his crown and winning another title. The Brit was more than confident over the previous few years, which is why the bookies predict him his seventh title, fourth straight.
The same situation is when looking at the manufacturers. Mercedes is far ahead of the competition, and Ferrari and Red Bull are no match for the Silver Arrows right now.
Still, the unusual conditions and circumstances might create some surprise. We will see what happens next.
