Chicago Bears roll over Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football, 30-15

Monday Night Football saw the Chicago Bears rolling over the Washington Redskins in DC. The final result of the last game of Week 3 was 31-15 for the hosts, who demolished the pale Redskins, especially their starting quarterback Case Keenum, who will want to forget this match as soon as possible.

Keenum had five turnovers, from which two fumbles and three interceptions, he was sacked four times for 45 negative yards, and was not delivering at all when needed. The fans were utterly unhappy with his performance and wanted to see the rookie Dwayne Haskins in action. Despite all the “Let’s go Haskins” chants coach Jay Gruden didn’t want to send the youngster on the field.

He was more than clear after the game that he doesn’t intend to make any changes at his starting QB position, and that for now, Keenum is his primary choice. He backed up his decision saying that the offense is still new and needs yet to create chemistry.

“The most important thing is that we have to have some continuity. You know I can’t be changing people every five minutes or so. I got to give Case an opportunity to play with these new guys. This is his first time with this offense, really,” Gruden said.

The Redskins’ QB would end the night with 332 yards completing 30 of his 43 passes, having two TDs and three interceptions. Plus two fumbles.

“Turn it over that many times as a quarterback, I let my team down. It’s all on me. I take complete responsibility,” he said, following the game.

It is fair to say that all these numbers came in the moments when Chicago had a comfortable lead and when the game was already solved.

On the opposite side of the field, Mitch Trubisky had one of the best sequences in his life in the second quarter. The young QB threw three touchdown passes all to Taylor Gabriel. Trubisky would end the first half throwing 173 yards, completing 20 of his 23 passes. In the end, he had 231 yards, 25 for 31 for three TDs and an interception.

“It just felt like the tempo helped us out a little bit,” Trubisky said. “If everyone just continues to stick together and execute our plays and believe and just go out there and make plays, it’ll be a fun offense.”

Gabriel had 75 yards and Allen Robinson 60.

The Bears’ defense was setting the tone in the start, when they broke Washington’s resistance. A field goal brought the initial points for the home team, and it was all the way at the end of the first halftime. Meanwhile, prior to Trubisky’s show in the second, Chicago took the lead through Ha Ha Clinton-Dix who intercepted Keenum’s pass in the opening quarter and returned it for 37 yards and his first-ever NFL touchdown. Just to remind you, Clinton-Dix finished the previous season in DC, but the redskins decided not to offer him a new contract.

The Bears are hosting the Minnesota Vikings in the next round, while on the other side, the Redskins go to New York to play against the Giants and their new quarterback Daniel Jones.
