Carson Wentz and Eagles Come Back to Beat the New York Giants, 22-21

  • The Philadelphia Eagles posted their second win of the year, defeating the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football, 22-21.
  • Eagles came back in the last five minutes of the game, erasing an 11-point deficit.
  • Philly is now 2-4-1, while Giants sit at 1-6.

Wentz’s Comeback

The Eagles were behind 21-10 during the middle of the final period, with the Giants pretty close to their second win this year. However, Carson Wentz wouldn’t allow his team to suffer another defeat at the Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles’ QB rose to the occasion and knocked out the guests with several excellent moves. Wentz threw two touchdown passes in the last minutes, with one towards Boston Scott being the most impressive.

He would hit the 5-foot-6 running back covered by Jabrill Peppers, with the football slightly going above Giants’ safety’s helmet.

“I was pretty surprised we pulled it off. When I threw it, I thought it was a little high, but he plays bigger than he is,” said Wentz.

That touchdown was the crucial one, with the hosts taking a 22-21 lead, even though failing to convert the extra-point conversion.

After this situation, the Eagles’ defense did the rest of the job, holding off Daniel Jones, forcing him to fumble the ball. It was Brandon Graham who stripped the Giants’ QB of the football, while Vinny Curry recovered the possession.

Wentz had 359 passing yards, for two touchdowns and one interception. His second pass for a score was with 4.38 left, to Greg Ward. Philly’s QB rushed for one touchdown at the start of the game, finalizing the home team’s first drive.

Richard Rodgers had 85 receiving yards on 6 catches, Travis Fulgham had 73 in five receptions, while John Hightower added one 59-yard catch.

Jones and Giants Disappoint Again

The franchise from New York is now 1-6, and seems to be in a pretty bad position. Without Saquon Barkley, who is out due to injury, the entire pressure is on Daniel Jones, who is not handling it quite well.

The 23-year old threw 187 yards for two scores and one interception. He was sacked three times for 22 negative yards, and lost the football in the final minutes, handing the win to the rivals.

At one point, Jones had a superb run breaking through the Eagles’ defense and having an open field all the way to the endzone. He would trip five yards short of the promised land, allowing the defenders to catch him.

The two TD passes were towards Golden Tate in the first quarter, for 39 yards, and Sterling Shepard for a two-yarder in the final period. In between, Wayne Gallman had a one-yard rushing score.

“No excuses. We’re working hard. We’re trying to put a product on the field that you can be proud of,… We have to improve to be better for you guys,” Joe Judge, Giants’ HC, stated after the match in the message delivered to the fans.

His team will meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week. After that, they travel to Washington to play with the Football Team, before coming back home and trying revenge tonight’s defeat as they face the Eagles.

In the meantime, Philly hosts Dallas Cowboys, and after that has a week off.
