Bundesliga Continues This Weekend

  • Bundesliga comes back this weekend.
  • It is the first major league in the world to resume after the COVID-19 pandemic began.
  • Canada’s Alphonso Davies and his Bayern Munich are topping the table, and are the biggest favorites to win the title.
  • Ruhr Derby between Dortmund and Schalke is the highlight of the round.

Everything Ready for This Weekend

The first major soccer league which comes back after the pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemics is the German Bundesliga. This weekend marks the return of one of the most interesting competitions in the world, which is a massive relief for all the soccer fans around the globe.

Bundesliga‘s return will have a huge psychological impact on the entire German society (European also) because it will show that the worst times are probably behind. Some are suggesting that heir comeback helped all other leagues to regroup, sit down and find a way to continue their respective competitions also.

Up until this moment, La Liga, Serie A, and Premiership all decided to continue their campaigns and already have guidelines and plans which are going to be the basics for future decisions and game organizations.

As for the situation in the standings, right now Bayern Munich leads the way with 55 points, four more than Borussia Dortmund in the second position. Red Bull is third with 50, and Borussia Moenchengladbach has 49. The experts don’t see anyone capable of winning the title besides these four clubs, with the note that Bayern seems to be the absolute favorite for doing so.

The Bavarians got into an excellent rhythm before the hiatus, and they jumped over all of their rivals who were ahead of them for a long time.

Bayern and Davies Favorites for the Title

Canada’s Alphonso Davies is one of the vital pieces of Hansi Flick’s starting lineup. The youngster is Bayern’s future and a cornerstone of the next generation, which is slowly introduced. He recently got a contract extension, which will keep him in Bavaria until 2025, which no doubt means that the German powerhouse puts a lot of hope in the teenager.

Borussia is apparently the only team that might challenge Bayern, because many doubt in Red Bull’s power. The side from Leipzig was No.1 for a long time, but before the COVID-19 pandemic, they just stopped, allowing to slip down in the standings and practically lose hopes for the trophy.

Derby in Dortmund

The biggest game of the round is in Dortmund, where Borussia awaits Schalke 04 in Ruhr Derby. It is arguably the most intense rivalry in the entire country with a history that goes way back even before World War II.

What should be also an interesting game is the one between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Moenchengladbach. The Eagles were one of the teams predicted to fight for top places and a ticket to the European competitions, but are near the red zone now. Meanwhile, Moench still has some chances to stay in the title race, which promises a lot of excitement.

Bayern and Davies play in Berlin against Union on Monday and are closing the round.
