Buffalo Bills clinch the playoffs, beat Steelers on the road, 17-10

The Buffalo Bills have clinched a playoff spot after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field, 17-10. I a tight contest, the thing which separated the guests was their excellent rush defense, which limited Jammes Conner and the rest of the Steelers to just 51 yards.

But also, the difference was in the productivity of the two starting quarterbacks, Josh Allen and Devlin Hodges. Both of them came into this event very confident, Allen with three wins in four games, while Hodges had three straight victories as a starter with the Steelers. He was on the way to become the first undrafted rookie with four victorious starts.

But this game has turned into a nightmare for him. Hodges threw for 202 yards, 23 of 38, one touchdown pass, and had four picks with one fumble.

“After a loss like that, it’s kind of quiet,” Hodges said. “Everyone knows what’s on everyone’s mind. Not a whole lot of talking needs to be done.”

Allen, on the other side, led his team to another comeback in the final quarter. The Bills were down 10-7, before scoring 10 straight points. With 7:55 left, Allen connected with Tyler Kroft for a 14-yard TD, which broke the tie and set the final score.

Besides that, Bills’ QB scored one TD all by himself, 38 seconds into the second period. It was a one-yard rush, which brought the lead to the guests, 7-0.

The Steelers responded through Chris Boswell, who scored a 49-yard field goal, while James Conner caught an 11-yard pass to turn the tables on the field. However, that wasn’t enough for the hosts to stay unbeaten.

“We will learn from this and move forward to our next opportunity,” said Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. ”You only get so many opportunities to state a case for yourself.”

Conner had just 42 rushing yards on 8 carries. The brightest spot in the Steelers was James Washington, with 83 receiving yards on five catches.

Meanwhile, Devin Singletary had 87 yards on the ground for the Bills, and John Brown 99 through the air, in 7 receptions though we need to add that Singletary had two fumbles.

“The goal is to get yourself into the playoffs to have a shot at the Super Bowl,” said Allen

This was the sixth win on the road for the Bills, who had just one loss away from home this season, and that took place in Cleveland in week 6. At the moment, they are 10-4 and are second in the AFC East behind the Patriots, but with a playoff berth clinched. Though they might reach the No.1 spot if they defeat New England next week in Foxborough, and other results go in their favor.

The Steelers are 8-6, and are still in the last Wild Card place in the AFC. However, they don’t have any room for mistakes no more. Victory is a must in both of their next matches, against the Jets and the Ravens, both on the road. It will be one hell of a task for Tomlin’s boys, who are crippled by injuries at the moment.
