Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski managed to win his second race in a row and reminded everyone that he still needs to be counted once talking about the championship this year.
After taking Coca-Cola 600 last Sunday in Charlotte, Keselowski once again snatched a trophy. He would win the race at Bristol Motor Speedway, but we need to point out that the 36-year old had a lot of luck in this one.
With two laps remaining, Keselowski as sitting third, and ahead of him were Joey Logano and Chase Elliot. The two were competing for the first place, and after Logano passed Elliot, the Hendrick’s Motorsports driver wanted to regain his spot. However, he would create an incident that saw both guys losing their position and practically handing the win to Keselowski.
“I felt like I was in Las Vegas,” Keselowski described the entire situation in the last laps of the event. “I went from having a bad hand to a full house real quick.”
With this success, he became the first driver with multiple victories following the resume of the championship and is, according to many, the driver who could easily explode and go after the No.1 place in the standings.
Right now, Keselowski has 315 points, ten fewer than Chase Elliot. Meanwhile, Joey Logano collected 346, and Kevin Harvick leads the championship with 370 points. So we might say that there would be a lot of interesting races until the end.
As for Logano and Elliot, the two collided and finished with their participants, losing valuable points. Logano was furious following the race, and that was obvious right from the moment he got out of his vehicle. He would address his colleague shortly after, without hiding the frustration.
“He wrecked me,” Logano said to the reporters afterward. “A simple apology … be a man and say ‘My bad.’ I had to force an apology, which to me is just childish.”
On the other side, Elliot admitted that he made a mistake, but wasn’t very upset with it, as he explained that he just wanted to win.
Clint Bowyer was second, legendary Jimmie Johnson third, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones fourth and fifth.
The second-placed Bowyer spoke about the absence of the fans. He, as well as several other drivers, are pretty uncomfortable with that.
“It’s starting to bother me,” Bowyer said. “…. a place like Bristol, it’s the first time I really felt like ‘Man, it’s empty.’ You can feel the vibe.”
COVID-19 pandemics ruined the season not just for NASCAR but almost all the sports in the world. The fans would be able to come back to stands around New Year according to some prognosis, but that is still not official.
