Bianca Andreescu Wins the US Open !!!

Bianca Andreescu won her first Grand Slam by defeating Serena Williams in the US Open finals. The 19-year old Canadian continued her rise towards the top of the tennis world by beating one of the greatest players ever to play this sport.

The final result was 6-3, 7-5 for the Andreescu.

For some, it might be a sensation, but for those who follow tennis on a daily basis, the teenager’s victory in New York wasn’t that surprising. After taking the Rogers Cup, she continued playing in the same manner and dominantly took her first Grand Slam. And Canada’s also.

“Having Canada’s support gives me extra motivation to do better in my matches. Even today, I know the crowd wasn’t for me, but I did hear some Canadians, and I’m truly grateful for that. That support coming from everyone is so incredible,”

said the teenager.

She opened the match much better than Serena, who was obviously nervous and didn’t play as everyone expected. It seems that once again the pressure of winning slowed down the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

In no time it was 6-3 for Andreescu who silenced the crowd at Arthur Ashe stadium. And she almost made them go home earlier at the start of the second set.

The 19-year old started to dismantle Serena, who completely lost control of the game, in a way which hasn’t seen before. In some 20 minutes of play, Andreescu reached a 5-1 lead and was serving for the championship.

But Serena woke up, and showed why she is one of the best despite the fact that she passed her peak. The American took four games in a row, and but previously saved a match-point. It gave her a massive swing and brought the result to 5-5, but the veteran couldn’t do more than that. Andreescu stopped her rush in the crucial moments, coming back from the dead and playing several big-time points.

Eventually, she broke Serena’s serve in the twelfth game of the second set to become the new US Open champion.

On the other side, this was the fourth Grand Slam finals in a row which Williams lost. Unlike the previous year when Naomi Osaka beat her here, Serena was much calmer and didn’t make any scenes.

“It’s very hard right now in the moment to, like, take this and say, ‘It didn’t work out for you today.’ It’s really hard right now to take that moment in and to say, ‘You did OK,’ because I don’t believe I did,” Serena explained the current situation and thoughts about the fact that she can’t reach that 24th title and catch Margaret Court.

After failing at Wimbledon last and this year, she did the same at Flushing Meadows. She now has to wait for the Australian Open for another opportunity to take the silverware.

And as for Andreescu, she can relax for some time and celebrate one of the biggest successes of the Canadian sport.
