Sunday Night Football: Arizona Cardinals Rally to Beat the Seattle Seahawks in OT, 37-32

  • Arizona inflicted Seattle its first loss of the season, 37-34, after overtime.
  • The Cardinals had to come back on several occasions, but showed incredible mental strength.
  • Seattle’s Tyler Lockett had 200 receiving yards and three TDs.

Arizona’s Breakthrough

If anyone underestimated the Cardinals, it is time now to take back his words. Kliff Kingsbury’s guys showed this Sunday night that they aren’t just a talented team anymore, but a real playoff contender. Arizona defeated one of the top Super Bowl candidates, erasing a 13-point deficit and facing death on multiple occasions.

“I’m just super proud of the team, the way we fought, not giving up, no matter the circumstances, just keep battling, keep battling. And that’s what we did,” said Kyler Murray, who orchestrated Cards’ offense almost perfectly.

The young QB had 360 yards, with three touchdown passes, one interception, and without a single sack suffered. Murray added one rushing touchdown, and 67 yards on the ground in 14 runs.

The home team didn’t start the match as planned, but after the halftime pause, Murray and the rest of the leaders woke up, starting to pressure Seattle, which gave results. After being down 27-17 at the break, they quickly came close to the Seahawks. Arizona would have the last attack, but they couldn’t score a touchdown, which is why Zane Gonzalez tied the score as time expired.

The same player had a chance to seal the game much earlier in the overtime, but his 41-yard field attempt was wide, with the football coming back to the Seahawks. Russell Wilson threw his third pick of the game with a minute under the end, and Gonzalez this time hit the jackpot, from 48 yards, causing an eruption of joy on Cards’ bench.

Lockett’s Superb Game

Seattle’s WR had 200 receiving yards with three touchdowns in 15 receptions. It is among the best performances of one receiver this season. Each time Lockett had the football in his possession, the Cards had problems, but as time went by, Russell Wilson began to lose the pace and make mistakes. That impacted the entire Seahawks’ crew, and Lockett as well.

One of the best QBs in the league, had 33 completions in 50 attempts for 388 yards, three touchdown tosses, and three interceptions. Wilson rushed 6 times for 84 yards, a team-high.

“Those are my fault,” Wilson said about bad plays, which ended up costing Seattle a win in this matchup. “We had some mistakes as a team, and just you can’t have those mistakes in close matchups like this.”

RB Carlos Hyde scored one rushing TD, as he had 15 snaps for 68 yards.

The Seahawks are ahead of a very problematic schedule. They have another division rivals next week, the 49ers, and that match takes place in Seattle. Afterward, Pete Carroll’s guys will travel to Buffalo to play against the Bills and LA, where they have a matchup against the Rams.

Arizona is free next week, and after that meets the Miami Dolphins and the Bills, too. Both of those events are in Glendale.
