Alistair Overeem Beats Walt Harris Via KO

  • Alistair Overeem defeated Walt Harris via KO in the second round.
  • Even though he had one critical period, the Dutch veteran managed to come back and to win this fight.
  • Overeem stated that he still wants to fight for the title.

Overeem’s KO Stops Harris’ Winning Streak

The Demolition Man (46-18 MMA, 11-7 UFC) was near another loss once Walt Harris (13-8 MMA, 6-7 UFC) brought him down in the first round and attacked him with all he has. At that point, it looked that the American might finish this bout pretty quickly, yet the veteran from the Netherlands managed to slip away and survive.

The situation was dramatically changed in just a few minutes, because he now had the advantage over Harris, and was all over the 36-year old who was on the canvas. Bell saved the American, who eventually felt what is like to be hit by Overeem’s high kick.

After that followed a barrage of punches which brought down Harris and the referee in the ring, Dan Miragliotta had to step in and stop the contest.

It was his third win over the previous four fights, with the note that even the one he lost shouldn’t and like that. Jairzinho Rozenstruik‘s desperate swings hit Overeem, who was knocked out cold just four seconds before the final belt. If he had survived that, a 40-year old would win via decision, as all the judges gave him a clear advantage on the scorecards.

Once mentioning his age, Overeem turned 40 quickly after the fight, and the midnight caught him while going through the medical tests. He would receive the first congratulations there, but that didn’t affect his celebrational mood.

Even though he is one of the oldest persons in the UFC, the Demolition Man won’t give up his dream of winning the title and becoming the person with championship belts in all the important MMA organizations. Back at the UFC 203, he lost against Stipe Miocic, and ever since, he hopes to have another shot at the title.

“Somehow, I keep finding the focus. I love it,” Overeem said during the post-match interview in the octagon. “Let’s look at the rankings, fight again later this year and maybe see if there’s one more shot at the title.”

Harris Promises to Come Back Stronger

Meanwhile, Harris although lost the fight, didn’t look like a defeated man. The Big Ticket, which is his nickname, had a lot of troubles lately. The two guys were supposed to meet in December 2019, but that bout was canceled because Harris’s stepdaughter’s tragic.

“You ain’t seen the last of ‘The Big Ticket,'” Harris said. “I’m gonna go home, heal emotionally and physically, and come back better than ever.”

He would receive a lot of support via social networks, and even Overeem took one moment after the stoppage to kneel down to Harris, who was on the ground and propose him to practice together.

We’ll see what are the plans for both guys. Overeem could be a part of some title-eliminator soon, while Harris needs to win a few matches before reaching the same position.
